As the brilliant Jane Elliot so wonderfully put it, ‘You’re not born a bigot, you have to learn to be a bigot.” As a proud father of two amazing children, I can vouch for Jane’s teaching 1000%. My kids do not care about the name, race, gender, sex or any other arbitrary thing about another person. My kids simply want to know: will you play with me?!
The Daily Dad put it so well in this essay where they quote the brilliant Dennis Leary: “Racism isn’t born, folks. It’s taught. I have a two-year-old son. Know what he hates? Naps. End of list.”
Think about Jane & Dennis & the Daily Dad’s messages the next time you might want to get on your sanctimonious high horse, whether it be your nationality, sexual preference, gender, etc., and instead try to remember to be a bit more childlike: love everyone.
